Monday, March 21st 2022 ā Mollie Plunkett, who is 21 months old, is pulling out all the stops to support NCBI later this month through the Mollie Plunkett Run. Mollie, who is from Cavan, lives with the condition Optic Nerve Hypoplasia. She and her family have received practical and emotional support from NCBI since they learned of Mollieās vision impairment.
To contribute to NCBIās ability to provide these services to Mollie and other children and adults around Ireland, the young girlās family are fundraising through their big event, the Mollie Plunkett Run.
Mollieās mother, Fiona Clancy Plunkett, said: āMollie was diagnosed around Christmas 2020 and it was a big adjustment for her and our family as we were not experienced with sight loss. We were told Mollie might not be able to see at all, but in recent months we were encouraged to hear that Mollie has been reacting really well to tests on her vision.
āMollie is the best little girl and she doesnāt let her vision impairment hold her back at all. She is determined to have an amazing day at her Run and sheās loving that her name will be up in lights for all to see. Weāre so happy that Mollie, and our family, can do something special for NCBI who have supported us through Mollieās sight loss journey. We donāt know what we would have done without their support.ā
The Mollie Plunkett run will take place on Sunday, 27th March 2022. The run starts at St Brigidās Church in Laragh at 1pm sharp and will travel through Cavan town, Cootehill and Canningstown before returning to Laragh. Registration for the event is ā¬20 per vehicle (all tractors, vintage cars & bikes, and lorries are welcome). Refreshments will be served and there will be a raffle on the day.
People who wish to register for Mollieās big day can do so on the NCBI website. Those who wish to donate to Mollieās fundraiser can do so on the Mollie Plunkett Run Facebook fundraising page.
